Ear medical specialty belongs to the field of ENT (Ear ¨C Nose ¨C Throat, or ORL which stands for Otolaryngology in Latin).
The outer ear
and the ear canal is a common place where infections and other medical conditions occur. Ear infections can be very painful however they can be diagnosed and treated accordingly.
We deal with earlobe correction (prominent earlobe), excessive earwax removal (cerumen), inflammation of the ear canal and eardrum, ear cartilage infection and so on.
The middle ear
We diagnose and treat chronic middle ear inflammation as well as acute middle ear inflammation (without piercing the eardrum) including its possible consequences (mastoiditis).
We handle hearing defects, especially in children and in connection with a deteriorated Eustachian tube function. Concerns include recurrent middle ear infections, hearing loss or delayed speech/language development. Where a non-surgical approach fails we progress to a surgical correction.
In the case of acute middle ear inflammation it is not necessary to perform a paracentesis (piercing the eardrum using a needle) thus the child can be spared a traumatic experience.
The inner ear
The inner ear is the area where sound is converted into signals transferred to the brain. It is where hearing disorders in adults generally occur and also from where a noise (tinnitus) spreads to other areas. In addition, vertigo is usually linked to problems with the inner ear, where the balance organ is located.
We also treat gradual hearing loss commonly occurring as people age (presbycusis), labyrinthitis, acustic and barotrauma, Meniere´s decease, and kinetosis.
Ears can even be affected by tumors.
